What this category covers

What global mobility solutions do

These solutions bring together every case in which employees work abroad: permanent transfers and international hires, fixed-term assignments, short business trips and workations. They guide employees, HR and external service providers through the required steps and keep deadlines and documents in one place.

Typical functions are handling visas, work permits and residence titles, organising the move, housing search and destination services, pre-travel checks on tax, social security and permanent establishment risk, applying for A1 certificates and posted-worker notifications, and cost planning and reporting across all active assignments. Some providers offer pure software, others combine it with advisory and services in the destination countries.

What to look for

Which solution fits depends mainly on which cases dominate in the company. The points to compare:

  • Cases covered: immigration and relocation, long-term assignments, short trips and workations – all in one solution or specialised?
  • Country coverage: for which countries are rules, templates and partners in place, and how current are they kept?
  • Software or service: does the system only check rules, or do specialists take over applications, notifications and organising the move?
  • Integration: connections to HR software, payroll and travel booking, so that cases are created automatically and data is not maintained twice.
  • Data protection and security: processing of passport, family and residence data across borders, GDPR, certifications.

Global mobility, EoR or Payroll?

Global mobility supports employees of a company's own entity who go abroad. An employer of record, by contrast, becomes the employer where the company has no entity. Payroll pays the salaries – for assignments often supplemented by a shadow payroll in the host country. HR Admin / Core HR holds the employee data from which mobility cases are triggered.
